I think my Mum is worried that my Dad’s blood pressure won’t survive the 2 years and 8 months or so he’s going to spend yelling at the telly. If the last 48 hours is anything to go by.
We do indeed live in interesting times.
Exciting times.
In autumn 2014 we will go to the polls where we will be asked to make a momentous choice. Not about our currency, our defence force, our membership of the EU, our access to BBC, the DVLA, foreign embassies or high speed rail tracks.
Just a simple choice…..
… is it the will of the people of Scotland that their devolved government be given a mandate to negotiate with Westminster the terms for re-establishing an independent Scotland.
Or something like that.
I imagine.
There might be another choice in there for those that say Nay, such as “Does more devolved power tickle your fancy?”
Whether or not the weans will qualify for Blue Peter Badges or if we’ll still get Eastenders in an independent Scotland might well keep some people awake at night…… in only two days the arguments for maintaining the Union are taking on such epic proportions of absurdity it wouldn’t surprise me at all.
I’m laughing at the moment but whether I can maintain that humour for 2 years and 8 months or so remains to be seen.
I do hope that once this initial hysteria dies down and George “It’s our Pound and you’re no getting it” Osborne picks his toys back up, we’ll get down to some serious discussion.
It is indeed a momentous decision, it must not be rushed.
However, it’s just a small step, given the many we’ve already taken.
We’re been through the single bed stage and are now in separate bedrooms.
Time to get our own flat I think…….
And yes, I probably am going to go on about this for the next 2 years and 8 months or so.
I apologise in advance.
Have a photo. I made this. My hands hurt.

Come on, Nikkii, a life without Eastenders is no life worth living. Problem solved.
This is all exciting… can’t wait to see what unfolds!
lol – I think I could manage
It’s SO FREAKIN’ EXCITING!!
I’m pretty much speechless and sleepless and worried sick and so so so excited at the moment I don’t really know what to say. But I have 2 years and 8 months or so to figure that out…..
Obviously I know how I am going to vote but the Independence Roadshow rolls into town at the end of the month and I HAVE to get involved. I have to. I can’t imagine looking back on my life in 20, 30 years or so and forgiving myself if I don’t do everything I can, now, to help this happen. Kathryn has joined the SNP. If all goes to plan 16 and 17 year olds will be able to vote in this and Andrew will have his say too. It’s huge innit
I can’t wait to see your ranty post on this (that I assume will be coming!). I’m all for Scotland being independent if they want it.
All posts will be brimming over with positivity and minimum ranting. Now let’s see if I can stick to that……
I’m just about sick with excitement too. We’re nearer than we’ve ever been, and I’ve already made contact with my local MSP volunteering to help. You’re absolutely right – we CAN’T look back on this and think “bugger, wish I’d actually done something”.
Loads of people don’t like Alex Salmond but I’ve always really, really admired the guy in so many ways. I think he’s exactly our man to pull this off. If only the people of Scotland can shed this “we’re no good enough” cap in hand type of mentality, and don’t believe the crap they read in the unionist press, then … this … could … happen. Something I’ve voted for since the day I was 18 and been desperate for since way before then.
Huge? Momentous. Epic. Utterly pivotal.
Please. Oh please.
Yup – summed it up pretty well there. It’s not going to go away is it? Not until it’s over. It’s not the first thing I think about when I wake but my tummy does flip at least once a day when I remember and have that OMG moment. For now I’m taking the opportunity when it’s offered to just talk to people… people who are scared to take that step, or who are entrenched in their belief of Tartan Tories, who want change but can’t imagine that change…. and yes, who don’t like Alex Salmond yet fail to understand that it won’t be his show to run post independence, that we’ll have an election, that we will all be truly represented and not have to vote for distant parties that have failed time and time again to have any positive impact on our country. Yeah that.
